Spring Break

Crown Tower, University of Aberdeen

King’s College is the original building of the University of Aberdeen, which was founded by Bishop Elphinstone under a Papal Bull issued by Pope Alexander VI in 1495. The crown tower, visible here, is an Imperial crown and is is a symbol of universal dominion, as opposed to a national one, symbolising support of the Scottish monarch’s claims of imperial authority within Scotland.

Mitchell Hospital, Old Aberdeen

The Mitchell Hospital in Old Aberdeen was founded in 1801. Although called a hospital, it was in fact an almshouse, a refuge for the poor and elderly, before it was converted in the 1920s.
